About us

Hello there!

Did you know that horses can help when talking isn't working?

We are very excited to introduce you to Viewpoint Centre CIO and warmly invite you to support us in our mission to reduce social exclusion across Tandridge.

ACTIVITIES

Our innovative, horse-powered behavioural change programme:

  • Replicates the work of The Horse Course (THC), Dorset, leaders in well-evidenced, high impact equine-assisted interventions through proven work in prisons.
  • Targets ‘hard to reach’ children, young people and families across Surrey who come to us as a last resort, having been through multiple services without success.
  • Transfers successful behavioural training techniques for equines into the human world, enabling us to shape difficult behaviour using non-verbal strategies, which seem to be more acceptable to those who struggle with, resist or have completely disengaged from conventional or talk-based interventions.
  • Teaches transferable skills for resilience, wellbeing, self-esteem and independence through the vehicle of horsemanship. Our fun, challenging, action-based tasks motivate participants to problem solve in partnership with specially trained horses, supported by one of our expert THC facilitators.
  • Empowers them to break out of their cycle of disadvantage and social isolation caused by poor thinking, emotion and behaviour management skills and exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Succeeds with ‘difficult to reach’ people with multiple and complex needs – over 95% retention.

OUTCOMES

All of our work is by referral from professionals in education, children’s services, mental health, social work or other specialist organisations,  who tell us that 10-20% of their caseloads meet our 'hard to reach' criteria and we present a much-needed option with real evidence of success.

“X did amazingly to attend the ReStart! Getting her to leave the house and go somewhere completely new was a big achievement for her. She was also able to recognize that by pushing herself to go each day made it a little easier each time. The way she took instructions and carried out the activities with the horses helped her to feel a sense of achievement and build on her confidence. It was also great for Mum to see X take control and be confident in what she was doing. This helped Mum to recognize how capable X is when she is encouraged, rather than instantly letting her give up on the task asked of her (i.e. going to school).”

Jenny Moxon, Tandridge Targeted Youth Service

Over 70% of participants achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Improved attendance and engagement with school/training/work
  2. Better relationships
  3. Reduced problem behaviours
  4. Greater self belief

The local community directly benefits from this work as we seek to

  • reduce council costs associated with family support/care worker provision for young people, who are NEET or engaging in criminal/antisocial behaviour
  • create safer, happier and more integrated communities

PLEASE HELP US

We are currently seeking funding for our tailored, family-orientated 'ReStart' package, starting from £950:

  • 5 x 2-3hr 1:1 sessions with young person @£950
  • A complimentary 2hr 'Non-Verbal Toolbox' workshop with parents/carers/siblings/grandparents @£205

Options for skill refreshers and continued engagement via:

  • Top-Up/Lighter Touch sessions @£205
  • Supported volunteering @£12 per hour

Please help us to help young people and their families build life-changing skills. Every little you can give will make a huge difference!

Thank you for your support and good luck!

With warmest wishes
